The model used to manufacture the SBerger Original Serpent was an undated and unsigned instrument belonging to Michel Godard.

Indeed, thanks to modern technologies, notably medical diagnostic devices, I was able to optimize certain structural aspects of the serpent. The sound is fuller, the range has been extended and intonation is even more precise.

Each serpent is unique. But each has essentially the same intonation and attack. The differences in the wood structures can produce slight variations in sonority and timbre. The volume can also differ a little from one instrument to the next. This is why you should come to our workshop to choose your instrument, if at all possible.

And to ensure posterity, each serpent has a unique serial number burnt into the bell, so future generations can track its origins.
